Apples are one of the best healthy food sources out there. The average medium apple contains only 95 calories with 0.3g fat, 0.5g protein, 25g carbs, and 4.4g of fiber. To top this, apples are Cholesterol free and contribute 14% of our daily recommended Vitamin C intake.

This is all great to know, but why are apples so great? Apples make for a noteworthy snack in the world of fitness and health. Apples are very low in protein and contain 25g low-GI carbs. This makes for a suitable pre-workout snack before hitting the gym. Being low in protein makes them easily digested which in turn helps fight that feeling of being full while training, while the fiber helps slow the digestion process of the protein just enough to combat that notion of being hungry while exercising.

They are also a very heart-healthy snack as apples are low in sodium and high in potassium. This prevents eating an apple from causing large elevations in blood pressure. Now very important for us all during the current winter, while we are all working on those summer bodies to show off on the beaches in December, apples help support weight loss.
